
Biography
Australian classical pianist Izaac Masters was born in Perth, Western Australia. He showed an interest in classical music from an early age and began tertiary music study at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts at Edith Cowan University. Izaac graduated with a Bachelor of Music with first class Honours in 2020.
Thereafter, Izaac accepted an invitation to undertake a master’s degree at WAAPA and was offered a Simon Lee Foundation Scholarship to study fortepiano under Dr Geoffrey Lancaster AO. Izaac successfully completed his Master of Arts degree in 2023 specialising in performance and research on the fortepiano. His master’s dissertation included insights into performance and interpretation of music performed on pianos from the nineteenth century.
While at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, Izaac won several prizes and awards, namely: The Chopin Prize at WAAPA in 2018; The Warana Concerto Prize in 2019; The Richard Gill Award for the ‘most outstanding performance by a graduand’ (2020); The Royal Overseas League Bach Prize on the fortepiano (2022); and the ROSL Art Song Prize (2022). Additionally, Izaac has experience alongside the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, the Perth Symphony Orchestra and the WAAPA Symphony Orchestra.
During the years of 2022–2023, Izaac travelled to Europe’s most prominent historical keyboard collections, museums, and eminent piano makers and restorers. During which he accepted invitations to participate in the Forte/Piano Summer Academy at Cornell University, New York, and the 10th International Masterclass Course for Young Pianists in Radziejowice, Poland.
In the pursuit of developing as an artist and collaborator, Izaac continues to explore the richness of the historical piano world. He is currently studying at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and was recently awarded the Postgraduate Scholarship from The Ramsay Centre in Australia (2024).
